Hi All
Just installing 2008 on a new server, gave it service accounts everything went through fine.
Right at the last minute just as SQL was about to complete instllation, it errored with the message "wait on the database engine recovery handle failed"
Engine service installed and has the service account, just wont start up.
Changed service account to network service, starts up but wont let me login
Started SQL with -m -T3608 to add in user accounts, get login failed for my local admin account.
Currently running a repair on the install to see if that will do anything.
But anyone got any ideas how to login to the server other than un-install re-install?

A repair didnt work, failed with an error saying the services didnt install properly so had to do an uninstall re-install.
Reading further into the error, it seems like it was profile related, as the service accounts where being created with temporary profiles.
Hacked the registry to remove the SIDs from the ProfileList key, rebooted the server, uninstalled the engine, reinstalled the engine all working as it should.
