Wow. I had no idea windows XP had been around that long. Apparently it came out in 2001 though. I only started using XP on my home machine like 2 years ago. Never had a good reason to upgrade. Switched to windows 7 right away though.

how the scalar function and ITVF are working internally?

I don't know about the "deep internals", but a scalar function has the same affect as calling a stored procedure where an iTVF used with a CROSS APPLY makes for what amounts to a nice inner join with all the properties of a correctly written correlated subquery.
