Initial (MB) vs Autogrowth

  • Rob Phillips (4/3/2013)

The test box is a Windows 7 Home machine (insert chuckle here). I don't believe there's even the ability to set local security policy.

Administrative tools -> Local security policy, should be there in all version. The policy in question is 'Perform Volume Maintenance tasks'.

Even if so, and instant file initialization were turned on shouldn't it be just as quick for the log file as the database file?

No. Log files cannot be instant initialised, they always have to be zeroed out. Only data files can benefit from instant initialisation.

  • Unfortunately the Local Security Policy is nowhere to be found in Windows 7 Home Premium. I can only assume that by running as an admin account that the instant file initialization is on. Thanks for your help.
