Thanks for the question. I was the first to take this today. 🙂 Got 2 points.

Great question!
I first didn't see the important words "in a table with a clustered index", so I ruled out the correct answer. Because the other answers didn't seem plausible, I decided to re-read the question 🙂
Need an answer? No, you need a question

Thanks for the question! Nice and easy if you know the internals of indexes, and hopefully it will trigger the urge to learn more for those who answered it wrong.

Great question!
I'm surprised (and, frankly, disappointed) about the large percentage of incorrect answers, though.

Especially considering the "reprint" of Gail's excellent articles on the subject recently...

I am one who selected a wrong answer because I did not remember the following found at what I think may be a better link for this question
'If the table has a clustered index, or the index is on an indexed view, the row locator is the clustered index key for the row. '
at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177484.aspx .
Overall I hate not getting the right answer, but I must admit it was a well thought out question and truly made me have to think, especially after I found I selected the wrong answer.:-D

Thanks again Gail. Your 3-part article solidified me on this answer.

Good question... Proves you need to read the question completely before you answer. I didn't read the part that says in a table with a clustered index

yes, it's a good questiopn. And yes, that half of the answers are incorrect is both surprising and disappointing - if fact I think it's appalling.

Richard this was the same article I used to verify my answer.
The Tables and Index Data Structures Architecture sections of the SQL 2008<R2> BOL is a must read.
There is too much good information on how things are now in SQL server. 😎

I really liked this question. (Hey, I got one right! :-P)
Overall, I like all your questions Steve. Yes, more like this.
