Index fragmentation

    Dear Experts

    I have made a tracing file, then run tuning advisor. The recommendation shows a lot of indexes. I looked at the fragmentation for some indexs and I found it 50%. I made rebuild.

    I OPEND THE FRAGMENTATION AGAIN AND FOUND IT STILL 50%

    any idea why it remains as it is after rebuilding index.

    The most important thing here is not the amount a fragmentation but rather the ratio of fragmentation to pages. If you have 4 pages with 50% fragmentation I would not worry about there being a problem. If I have 1000 pages with 50% fragmentation then something needs to be done!

    This is a situation whereby understanding the collective information presented on the screen is a great deal more important than seeing a single number and thinking the world is going to end!
