Index build and parallelism

  • Jeff, do you have a reference to that, bit of a blow if it is true. This is for a create index, not a rebuild.

    cheers

Crud... I knew I should have written down the reference and I apologize for opening my mouth without such a reference handy. To be sure, there's nothing in BOL that states what I said and now I'm doubting what I said.

The onus is on me to find that reference.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • I looked around and couldn't find anything either Jeff. Perhaps if it does exist it is buried in the list of Edition features?

  • well edition features appear to be misleading at least about indexed views so cannot be taken as gospel (unfortunately).

I will see what my testing shows.

I do appreciate the interest and help offered.

  • I can't find the reference anywhere and until I find it, I'm wrong. Maybe full fledged CRS has taken a grip and I was thinking of something else. At this point, all I can do is apologize for bringing up a point with no proof and all I can blame it on is coffee depravation.

I'll try not to do such a thing again... this was pretty embarassing and I'll have to turn in my man card if I make this type of mistake again.

  • Heh... thanks for the understanding. I just hate making this type of mistake because I'm usually the first one to ask "Really??? You got proof of that???"

I've bookmarked this particular thread. If I either come up with the proof or what the heck I was actually thinking, I'll post it back here.
