Increasing Max Server Memory on the fly

  • Hi All,

I want to increase the Max Server Memory on my SQL server on the fly. Nowhere in BOL does it say you need to restart SQL services or reboot the server. I am wondering if this is the case and if i can change these memory settings on the fly (and have them take effect right away).

I understand that if i increase it, it will not automatically allocate that memory to SQL server right away but will allocate up to that setting if needed.

    Thanks!

  • yes, there is no need to reboot the server.

  • And no need to restart SQL services as well?
