Hi,
We have all our applications in SQL Server 2005 SP3 and do not want to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 until this year end. Because we do not use BI at all...
In which year MS is ending their support to SQL Server 2005? If MS ends their support to SQL Server 2005 by end of 2010 then we may need to consider to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2..
please advice.
Thanks

SQL 2008 has a lot of useful non-BI features. TDE, data compression, backup compression among others. It's only 2008 R2 that's BI focused.

What is exactly meant by Extended Support ? Does that mean separate License we need to buy from MS to get Extended Support ?
thanks

I heard today that by Q4 of 2010 we can expect SP4 for SQL Server 2005, so there is work being done.
Extended Support requires a contract with MS and costs money.
