We are designing a data warehouse that will extract data from source systems in 3 different times zones. Users will begin accessing the data in the East while the data in the west is still being loaded into the DW. What is the most effecient design to minimize the impact to users while the ETL is in process.

1. How long does the data load take?
2. When are users in the system?
3. When is your maintenance/down time during the day|night?
4. Is it realistic to load data during the night to be available for use in the AM?
Good Hunting!

1. The data load takes approx. 6 hours from each
2. EST users are in the system starting 8:00 AM EST
3. The load window is between 12:00 AM - 7:00 AM
4. Yes. We do it everyday.

Ok.
IF it takes 6 hours to load the data from EACH TZ and you start each at when each reaches midnight you start from 00:00 > 03:00 (assumption AK and HI are part of PST).
This means that PST will complete at 09:00 EST.
I guess I would research the WHY does it take 6 hours per TZ...
