IIS Support for SQL 2000 on Windows 2003

  • I am trying to configure an IIS virtual directory on Windows 2003 server SQL Server 2000 for accessing a database. I used SQL Server 2000 IIS Virtual Directory Manager, the virtual directory MyDir was created without problems, I can access it from both this utility and conventional IIS Manager. But... this directory is not accessible from the web page whatever manual I am trying to use. Moreover, if I put an HTML file in the directory, I can not access it too. The error message is that file or directory is not found. I tried re-creating the virtual directory several times, I always browse for the folder name, I did create dbobject, schema and template types. I can see my database in the Virtual Directory Manager dropdown, so SQL Credentials are OK. There are no error messages in any Event Log. I did play with Anonymous /Windows authentications in Virtual Manager.

The only thing that I noticed:

If you open normal IIS Manager, MyDir properties, Virtual Directory tab, Application settings frame then the value of "Starting Point" is <Default Web Site>\MyDir...  Which does not look correct(?) because of the Back Slash and because of the starting point inside the lower level directory and you actually cannot see it, it has <....>  And can not be configured, read-only

Did someone have a working example that I can use on Windows 2003 server? I did follow BOL and MSDN examples.

  • I just wanted to add to my question that I have no problems doing exactly the same thing on Windows 2000 Server with IIS 5. It is just on Windows 2003 server (IIS 6) where I have this problem

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,
