Idaho

  • What's the SQL Server job market like in Idaho?

  • For Laughs ONLY (not intentionally making fun of anyone from Idaho)...

    CREATE TABLE dbo.tblPotatoMonitoring

    POPULATE TABLE

    1x Potato, 2x Potato, 3x Potato, 4, ....

  • It's a great place for music, though.  How about those Back Street Boise?  🙂

  • Them Boys in the Back Streets are good- we hear them singin' about potato-pickin' all the day long.

As one who has worked as a SQL Server DBA in Idaho for the past 5 years, I'd say it's an 'average' market.  There are others that are better.  To live happily in Idaho, you gotta love both potatoes (the area) AND mssql.

-One happy potato, any potatoes more?

  • My personal experience with Idaho predates my experience with computers.  I was, once upon a time, a trombone player in an Air Force band and we spent a weekend at Mountain Home AFB (which I think has since been shut down).  We were there with a reserve outfit from Washington (state), doing some change of command ceremony or something like it.  There isn't much in the town of Mountain Home, but what people were there I think we managed to p.o. -- all of them, I think.  I lost track of all the beers I drank, but as I recall they mixed nicely with the Yukon Jack.  Our hotelier wound up calling the local constabulary on us at 2 AM because some of us were swimming in the pool with all of our clothes on and making lots of noise.

In short, our band was banned from ever coming back to the air force base.

That, and for a while I tried to make a relationship happen between me and a blonde nursing student from some potato farm near Boise.  Her name was Mary, and she was one of the strongest girls I ever met.  She was my height, outweighed me by about twenty pounds, and could lift a bale of hay like it was a feather duster.  She hated my politics, though, and Lord knows what else.  Very nice, pretty, scary girl.
