I just did my first SQL Server 2014 install and looks like I put in the wrong entry into the "Instance Configuration" window. I put in an entry into "Named Instance" (VADB) and "Instance ID" (VADB). I have been told (after I did the install) that I should have used the "Default Instance" radio button instead of the "Named Instance" button. When I look at the instance name from SSMS (right click on instance and "Name" field of properties), I see "vadb\vadb", when I think I should only see "vadb" (like other DB servers we have). The application connects to the default instance on the server it is connecting to.
Is there a way to "fix" this, or do I need to completely re-install? Nothing has been put into the instance yet except the system databases. If I do have to re-install, how do I uninstall all the "pieces" of SQL Server, or can I uninstall them all at once?

you'll want to uninstall, and then reinstall, two separate steps, sorry.
there's no way to convert a named instance to a default, nor is there a way to rename it(ie from .\VADB to .\SQL2014)
