We currently have merge replication set up between 4 servers. The distribution DB is set up locally on one of the servers, which pushes all updates to the other servers.
The server which has the distributer DB, is having a few performance problems which we think is down to the distributer DB. Therefore we want to move it to a fifth server, but not sure how?

The only supported way is to breakdown repl, setup dist on the new box, and then re-create all your publ and subs.
There might be a way through backup/restore of the dist box to the new server, but you'll have to go in and modify all the system tables on the pub/dist/sub to all point to the new dist box. I doubt that'll be supported, but I see no reason why it wouldn't be possible. But you'll still have to stop repl to make that happen.
My advice though is to delete the entire scenario and start again with dist on the new box.
