I just want to do my job !

  • Good points Ewan, but in the USA The positive attitude pill pushers, business rules and business principles should be applied to everything neo-fascist make me sick. Believe it or not we are people, not things! You can't substitute, cut out and replace, change at will a living entity as you would an inanimate object, such as a dollar bill. Even though there are many that try. That is why management is a failure. You must lead people, not manage them! Period. Once we are implanted with big brother controllers, I suspose it won't matter.

The original point was to allow my personnal time to be robbed, my family subjugated at the whim of an inconsiderate moron, my own self denied to persue the few freedoms remaining to please an institution of decadence. No thank you and I say again Thank you NO.

  • I read a lot of those motivational books, none had done me any good. I rather read Little Prince or speech from Dalai Lama.

  • Hi Loner, thank you, You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. Is one of the lines I like. The line referenced by S Hodkinson is the best, but I didn't want to copy. Here are some others:

Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.

If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.

  • Title of this thread is "I just want to do my job!".

Have you figured out what "your job" is, yet? I think you would become bored if you just did your job. You press the envelope with a lot of people... you will always find those that don't like it. Choose your words more carefully and proceed. Remember, people don't like to have their intelligence nor self worth challenged... look at what you're going through. And stop trying to save everyone's butt... give people the opportunity to fail. Tell them once, then leave them alone. How else are they going to learn? And be real careful about if/how you say "I told you so"... you need lots of stripes in the right environment to get away with that at all.

Now, get off this forum and onto a job forum... find a job with people you might be able to like... 😉

  • loner, there have been many posts that you have submitted over the last year or so. Most are in the same vein as this one is.

I have no sympathy in, on or about your situations. Yes, I used the plural form of the word situations.

You and your situations are like trying to change the weather. When in fact there is only one thing about the weather that anyone can change. That is how you, yes you, perceive the situation.

Maybe a 12 Step program would be appropriate for you. You don't actually have to have their 'problem' - just a desire not to do it that day. Try an open meeting, shut your mouth, open your ears and your mind. Oh, by the way, those 12 steppers would tell you that their 'problem' is not a problem at all, but more of a blessing since it brought them together for the betterment of all.

Get off of the 'pity pot' and do something !

  • Rudy, harsh words I think; you're opinion is important but may be misconstrued as not constructive. Communities are supposed to be built not destroyed; I think Loner's post are somewhat misunderstood sometimes and sympathy is not what is being called for, but support from someone who feels that the only place to be understood is on here with people in similar jobs, experiencing some similar events.

I don't profess to have all the answers, my advice is offered as my opinion. I can understand wanting to give someone a good shake and shout at them; a short , sharp shock back in to reality; but this kind of feeling doesn't come across well in text form and can be pretty destructive.

Loner, I too have read your posts about your situations and the fact that you feel that you can come to the community with your problems and receive some good advice and some great words of support is fantastic; exactly what the community is for.

But I do feel that you have to have a look at yourself, your attitude and your communication before any changes can happen. I believe that what's currently holding you back is a genuine lack of confidence; and positive changes need to be made. Maybe the first positive change to make is your handle on here. Choosing LONER says a lot about you; it instantly brings words like isolated and unsupported to mind and having seen the responses you receive from the guys and girls on here, you are NEITHER. Sit for a minute and think of a word or phrase that you can look at and think "yeah, that's who/what I want to be". Choose something that will lift you when you're not on top of your game: Spirited, Positive, Enlivened.

I am not saying that you have attitude problem; it may be that people just don't "get you". If that's how you generally feel, then may be a course (or self-help book) on confidence and communication is right for you. People won't get you if you can't open up to them and this leads to further isolation and feelings of helplessness. Changes are needed.

These changes are not going to happen quickly or easily, but can be achieved a piece at a time. There are lots of people on here willing to help and support you and their help will ease the change. The idea of going freelance may not be such a bad idea, as it will change your current lifestyle and daily routine which may start to lead you away from the path you currently tread. Everything's worth a shot, right?

Anyway, I've rattled on enough for one post. I hope that some of this had made sense and considered worthwhile. Lastly - Change that name!!!

    Thanks a lot.

    Rudy

I put a lot of post of my bad job experiences. I just wanted to get some advices or had someone listening to my problems, or just got some of my anger and frustration out of my chest. If you don't want to see it, you don't have to. As I said before, I had no one to talk to when I had problems at work or even problems at home. I did not ask for sympathy.

    Steve

If you think this web site is for technical problem only, I will not post any job problem. Please let me know.

I had asked my aunt who owned a company about job problems, she told me that if I had problem, maybe I should post on some websites, blogs or chat room. Don't talk about any problem at work. That is the reason why I put out the post. Let me know if I should not do that.

  • Loner,

You are welcome to post about your job here. That's what this forum and the Employee/Employer forums are for.

Just understand that not everyone will agree with you and might feel you are at fault.

I'm not passing any judgement either way here, since I think there have been good comments and criticisms from both sides. Your venting along with other comments, good and bad, are an opportunity for people to learn about what it can be like in a job you don't enjoy.

So keep posting, we're glad to have you, and good luck finding another job. Keep your chin up and something will come along.

  • Good morning Everyone, please take this the best possible way. STOP trying to FIX Loner. She is a beautiful, wonderful person. The unfortunate circumstances are a result of other people's actions. Obviously. Those are the ones that could use your council and positive attitudes. Do you all have perfect lives, perfectly positive attitudes in every situation, everything is just rosy. If so congratulations, now take off your rose colored glasses and join the real world. This is just a rough spot in the road for her. Let us lift her up, be of real assistance with job offers and leads, prayerful, and ispirational. We can lead her, but not manage her life, attitude, circumstances! So far most of you have tried to manage this as a situation that can be manipulated. "Job" (biblical reference) was in a situation also, what was the council of those around him. Are you giving similar council?

  • nunYoBidnez, offering advice that has been asked for is not "fixing"; if it were then consultants would put engineers out of a job?!? 😀

Advice is neither leading nor managing, it's offering a different perspective.
