I don't want to be a PITA here...but

  • Can someone explain to me why, when I post something, so many times the first attempt rejects me with 'Are you sure you wanted to do that?' and makes me submit my comment again and even then sometimes times out and makes me try a third time?  And then sometimes it even puts my comment out there twice and I need to delete one.

  • Thanks for posting your issue and hopefully someone will answer soon.

This is an automated bump to increase visibility of your question.

  • Is a pop up you're getting with the first post? I don't know I've seen a "are you sure" message.

I do get the frustration with a timeout or error and then the post being duplicated. I would agree we should be better. My complaints are not being acted on, but I'll pass this post along

  • I'll try to get more specific info on this.  I don't recall any specific circumstance, but it is not a new thing.  It's probably been happening for a couple years now.  I'm on a Win 10 laptop with Msft Edge.

  • Here's a screenprint of the regularly occurring thing that happens on the submit.  Trying again often returns error 504 gateway timeout, but sometimes will actually do a duplicate post.  This is really strange.

Well, so much for that!  I'll try something else.

  • Thanks, I'll push this a bit and see if someone can track down this error. I'm guessing this is some sort of file error, but would be good to know.

The 504s are really annoying. I get them and have learned to just curse WordPress developers and MySQL coders and just hit back rather than refresh.

I've seen the 'are you sure?' popup many times. It happens (usefully) if you try to post the same text more than once (I suspect people try this because of slow response times).

But it also happens occasionally at other times. I have not identified a pattern for these occurrences.

  • As the pols always say, "let me be clear".  The error isn't normally when uploading a file.  That apparently was my fault.  The error is usually when doing just a simple comment.

Are you suggesting that you good folks couldn't fix this even if we convinced "marketing" to bring some guns to bear on these problems?

Wow.  I have to ask... what makes you think our complaints would be acted upon if we sent emails to "marketing" as you suggested?  And, yes... I'm considering it... I just don't want to waste my time like I did when they asked us to test things prior to the original release of this "improved" site.

  • To be clear, I don't know how obvious or obscure the bug might be. It might be expected behavior to detect duplicate posts, though I'd expect it to say that.

Your complaints (from public users) sometimes resonate more than my complaints (as a fellow employee) do.

Steve, the problem and the message occurs first,  then after I submit again, there are sometimes duplicate posts.  But anyway, not a big deal.  Just annoying.

    It happens for 2 reasons...

    1. The first is the duplicate post thing.
    2. The second is when you start writing a post and someone else then starts writing and they submit before you do.  It's like the old update problem where your post would just disappear on the old software.
