Hello everyone,
Here is some alarming news that I think you should know if you are planning to by a HP server. The HP DL580 (which has Intel processors) G5 has a performance issue that don't not exist with the AMD version (DL585).
We have discovered a SQL 2005 performance issue with the Intel version. When we execute our code on the AMD version it completed in 1.07 second but the Intel completes in 4.0 hours (yes hours!). We have worked with Microsoft on this issue and they have found the execution is identical on both thus proving that the problem is with the hardware. HP is slow to resolve the hardware issue and as of today there are not fix(s).
The performance issues does not exist on x32 bit servers (Intel and AMD) or x64 AMD servers.
I wish there was a location here to upload our sample test code for you to try out. If once exists I will load the sample T-SQL code. Now if you get this code, DO NOT complain that it's not optimized and recommend changes. We know it's not the greatest. You should only be concerned about the execution times! .
One final note. The 6-core servers that are available now have problems with the installation of SQL server. See Microsoft's support note on this problem at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954835 ) or KB 954835 to perform the install
Just thought you should know,
Rudy

You can always put your code up here as an attachment to a post.

I've tried to do add the code here but don't see when that can be done. I'm still running on 4 hours of sleep for the past 3 days.
