Hi,
I'm trying to export a report from a cube in Analysis Services to Excel - but without using the pivot tables in Excel.
My first idea was doing this by using the MDX Sample application. Problem is that the info generated by this type of query cannot be exported to Excel. And Excel doesn't allow importing this type of query-data either.
Now I found out that there would be a possiibility to export data coming from a cube via Excel PTS, but I don't know at this moment what Excel PTS is (though I'm a frequent user of excel)
Can someone give me some information. And where can I find/buy Excel PTS?
Thanks in advance! Karl

PTS is Pivot Table Services, it's what's used by Excel (and ultimately everything else) to connect to Analysis Services 2000. Why don't you want to use the Excel pivot tables? if you don't use these, any method will end up being a static 'snapshot' of your report data.

I've already made several reports based on the pivot tables in Excel, and I got much info out of them.
But at this moment I'm searching for a static tool in order to be able to create reports looking like Crystal Reports outputs. I have all the information around to build the cubes I need, but I don't have the rights to use a Crystal Reports (or another) tool.
The information generated by an MDX query (MDX Sample Application) is the info I need in the right way, but upto now I didn't find a way to link to Excel without the PTS. Maybe there's a way in the Enterprise Manager?

Have you looked at or tried Reporting Services yet? It will let you paste the MDX and then returns a flattended result that you can then put into a crosstab, table, chart etc and then from RS you can save as Excel, PDf etc.

Hi,
I am experience some performance and limitations problems using PTS to retrieve data from Analysis Services to Excel.
I once so a presentation of Reuters retrieving data using XML/A. However, I do not quite understood how it works. Does anyone knows of a way to use XML/A to retrieve data from AS?
Thanks in advance.
