Hi All,
I have a working SQL 2016 Enterprise AAG at our primary datacenter using Synchronous mode. We are using a file share witness in another datacenter. I created a new SQL 2016 Enterprise instance in Azure for DR purposes. The AAG at the primary DC is still being tested so is not in production mode. The databases for synchronous mode are showing as synchronized and the ones at the asynchronous AG is showing synchronizing.
My question is how do I perform a a test and then a fail back to the initial primary node? We should not have any data loss because really nothing is changing so we're not worried about that.
Thanks!

You need to do a forced failover. The steps to failover and then switch the roles back are covered in the Forced Manual Failover documentation:
Perform a Forced Manual Failover of an Always On Availability Group (SQL Server)
