I am importing a flat file I created from Sql 2000 where first column has column names.
In Sql 2005 I can't figure out how to run the import data wizard without the system recreating the target table. If I "suggest data type" then it changes my original table structure slightly.
During the wizard, I bring up the "Column Mappings" screen. However, the "Create table" option is always selected and I cannot deselect it.
I seem to have more flexibility if I transfer the table from one server to another (i.e. from a Sql 2k DB to a Sql 2k5 DB).
Any ideas on that ?
Thanks,
Bob

Sorry Bob,
I can't duplicate your problem. When I select an existing table as the destination, Create table isn't even an available option. Are you sure you've select the correct destination table?

that happens when you are importing the table for the first time, 'cause it does not exist. I just tried it. Second time around, the table already exist and you can pick the option to Append.
I went a little further and renamed the table first created. When tried to import the second time in the screen where the Edit Mapping is I changed the destination table to be the one I renamed and when edit the mapping it picked it up and gave me the option to Append.
I also tried to pick a table from the drop down and it let me pick another table, even though the mappin was completely different, of course the Import Failed.
