Is it possible to change 'servername\sqlserver2005' to just 'sqlserver2005'? I just don't want physical server name before the instance name. is this possible?
I need to make this change on virtual server (sql server 2005 cluster machine) with 4 nodes
Thanks.
Zafar.

Deepak,
I've already search MSDN and TECHNET site regarding this issue. That's not what I am after. Thanks for trying anyway.

Zafar,
The link given below will solve your problem.

Btw deepak the link you have posted is to change the server name in a stand alone machine and not in a clustered environment.

the naming convention you give suggests this is a named instance. It is not possible to remove the servername part from the named instance name. If the naming convention is causing some app connection problems you could use an alias.
