Hello Masters,
We have 5 instances on our clients old machine with SQL 2005, now they want us to move on cluster environment with SQL 2012.
Once I have installed and configured SQL cluster with single instance, but have no idea how to install SQL Cluster environment for Multiple instances.
Should I install all the instances first and than have to configure cluster ?
OR
Is there any way that first I will install cluster and than we can add the instances ?
Please help me.

You can configure Windows cluster on the nodes first then install SQL instances and configure them for AlwaysON or you can install SQL instances on the nodes , configure Windows Cluster, add nodes to windows Cluster and then add SQL instances to AlwaysON.

You must design and build the Windows cluster first. The failover cluster instances are then installed within the new cluster.

I will try my luck with options given by you.
Just one more quest, If I wanna install multiple instance on SQL server 2005 with cluster, what would be the good option? Bcos 2005 does not have "Always On" feature.
In this case of SQL 2005, we have to install cluster "instance by instance" on existing windows cluster.
Am I correct ?

I just checked windows cluster is ready and they want me to install cluster with SQL 2005 first.

what version of the Windows OS are you using for the cluster?

Hello Perry,
Windows OS: Windows Server 2012 64 Bit.
Client want us to first install SQL cluster with SQL 2005 as some of their applications are compatible with SQL2005 only. They will design the Apps according to new versions of SQL Server 2012 OR 2014. But up to that we have to install SQL cluster with SQL 2005.

SQL Server 2005 is not supported on Windows 2012, I'd be very surprised if the installer even lets you complete the install

I informed it to delivery team and who agreed client to have OS as at least Windows 2008.
Still my question is unanswered :crying:
How we can install multiple instances on cluster ?
1. Should we need to install cluster for each instance ? OR
2. After installing all the instance we have to install cluster ?

No, you deploy the Windows Server Failover Cluster first and then install the clustered instances. Read my stairway series linked previously above and also below!

Now we got confirmation that we would get OS as Windows server 2008, Wintel team started installation. 🙂
