How To Get The Latest SQL Server Patch

  • I found out the @@version value is as follows

         Microsoft SQL Server  2000 - 8.00.818 (Intel X86)

         May 31 2003 16:08:15

         Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation

Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

I also found that in another thread

    1.

         Dec 17 2002 14:22:05

Developer Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

    2.

         Microsoft SQL Server  2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86)

         Dec 17 2002 14:22:05

         Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation

What difference this mean. Should I be worried. Can some one please explain why there is a difference in the dates

  • First, I use http://www.sqlsecurity.com to check the latest available versions. On the menu bar select FAQs/DOCs and then choose the SQL Server Version Database.

If it says YES in the PSS column, those are patches that are only available via Microsoft Help and are for specific issues.

The latest version for everyone is 818.

    8.00.818<A href="http://www.sqlsecurity.com/> 2000 SP3+Q821277/337/818388/826161/821280

That is SP3 plus those patches from Microsoft. Just go to their website, search for those knowledgebase articles and download the patch.

  • When I ran @@version, I got

    Microsoft SQL Server  2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86)   Dec 17 2002 14:22:05   Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation  Developer Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

and then I went to http://www.sqlsecurity.com and it had this

    8.00.760  2000 SP3/SP3a

How can I get it up to 8.00.818? I have applied SP3a already.

    Michael

  • Just apply MS03-031 (815495). This is the cumulative security patch that will bring your SQL Server to version 8.00.818
