Hi,
How to draw up a database estimation growth document?
Any suggestions on this .

Projecting forwards from historical growth, or just making up what might happen in a brand new db thats not been made yet?

I collect database data size data daily and store in a table, once you have enough data you can analyse. I produce a report every day showing %age growth, from this I can forward project. All this I have automated. A colleague wrote me an excel macro which took various sizes and growths and did compound / simple growth predictions.

If you have an existing database and haven't been tracking metrics, the best guess is probably made from looking back at backup sizes. That will let you look forward somewhat.
For new apps, have to make guesses on inserts and then calculate growths.
