How to do manual failover for sql server cluster 2008

  • Hi All,

I have very interest to know how to do manual failover for sql server cluster 2008?

  • stop the service on the server which has the active cluster node would be easiest,

from there you get ideas like unplugging the network cable, turning on the firewall to block it's traffic, rebooting the server,

ignore the posts suggesting getting out the hammer and smashing things....

--help us help you! If you post a question, make sure you include a CREATE TABLE... statement and INSERT INTO... statement into that table to give the volunteers here representative data. with your description of the problem, we can provide a tested, verifiable solution to your question! asking the question the right way gets you a tested answer the fastest way possible!

  • open up cluster manager, find the resource group you want to move, then click move resource and tell it which node in the cluster you want to move it to.

this stops anything in the resource group cleanly, moves it over, starts it up, clean manual resource group failover

  • ignore the posts suggesting getting out the hammer and smashing things....

    Best advice... LOL :hehe:

Killing\disabling the Public network connection is a good place to start, also move the groups as previously mentioned
