How to convert DTS Pack. to SSIS

  • What I have aare 30 DTS Packages on a SQL 2000 server and now they are moving to SQL 2008. WOW! now what do I do? How do I convert the DTS's or if not that how do I rewrit them in SSIS?

    Thanks,

    JM

  • > Third party tools can help. Here is one: DTS xChange is an enterprise ready tool to convert DTS packages to SSIS 2005/2008 with very little manual effort. DTS xChange will automatically convert most of your tasks, variables, connections and any other package level settings automatically. DTS xChange offers 3-Phase approach to convert your DTS packages.

    > Or you can keep them as is and run them from the command-line in your new environment using DTSRun.exe included in the SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Tools which (I think) work fine on your 2008 instance, but you'll most certainly confirm it when you do your migration testing 😉

Nice 🙂 The article was written by Brian Knight, who works(ed?) for Pragmatic Works, producer of DTS xChange. I read somewhere that DTS xChange received an endorsement from Microsoft for DTS conversion to SSIS...the article pretty much confirms it.
