How to configure VM for Windows Failover Cluster via VMware Workstation?

  • I am a beginner in clustering and I want to do a trial using virtual machines. I have downloaded VMware Workstation Player and I am going to make 2 different virtual environments for 2 cluster nodes, then make a virtual shared disk, after that install Windows Failover Cluster. Now I am confused at the beginning. My operating system is Windows 10, and when I create a new VM should I install complete new Windows 10 on it? So basically do I need a new licence for that Windows?
    Thanks for your time!

  • you'll need a windows server edition of the operating system, you can obtain the 180 day version of Windows server 2016

Yes, the server OS is required to operate as a WSFC node.
