How to change the layout of SSMS2008?

  • Hi there,

I wish to use the same settings for SMSS2008 as I am used to in SSMS2005. On first startup of SSMS2008 it asks to do this, but this did not happen... So now I am trying to modify my SSMS2008, but sofar to no avail.

When I look at my SSMS2005 I have in the leftpane 2 windows, Registered servers and Object Explorer, 1 below the other. Object Explorer details and Querywindows in the rightpane. Properties are set to dockable. I can't get this in SSMS2008. Properties are set to dockable as well, but my windows Registered servers and Object Explorer are tabbed, and I cannot get rid of this behaveour. Searched the Net, but have not been able to find the solution.

    Any hints?

  • I use SSMS2k8 exactly as you described. You have to click the register of Registered Servers and move it up since you see a splitter in the middle of Object Explorer.

  • Nope, it doesn't work. Doubleclicking the titlebar of the window just snaps it backed to TAB-view.

    I'm very vexed.

    Tnx for answering.

  • Hi Hans

No double click. Click on the register and drag it over the Object Explorer. You will see a little cross in the middle of the Object Explorer. Drop the Registered Servers at the upper icon.

I attached a screenshot which shows what I mean.

  • Hi Florian,

I will try this monday, when I'm back at work. Exactly on the icon. Got it.

    Tnx
