Hello,
I upgraded the network environment at our company from SBS 2003 to SBS 2008. I bought a new server for the database. I backed up the database from SQL 2000 and restored on the new server running SQL 2008. All went well.
Now I am on the client pcs and I need to update the ODBC. ODBC says it can't see the server. I guess because it is a SQL 2008 and the current driver can't see it. I tried to use the SQL Server 2008 dvd and load just client connectivity. It fails saying I have the wrong operating system.
This client has Windows XP sp3. I'm not trying to load SQL Server on it. I just need the ODBC updated. I would think this is straight forward. The PC is running mdac 2.8.
What is the best way to update my ODBC so that I can point the DSN to the new SQL 2008 Server.database server
Things will work out. Get back up, change some parameters and recode.

Install the SQL Server 2008 Native client from this page on each client.
This will install the new ODBC drivers for SQL 2008.

Jeremy,
Thank you. That worked. At first, I was still getting an error message. Then I remembered since it was a new server, the firewall may have been turned on by default. Sure enough, the firewall was blocking all incoming requests.
I made the correction and was able to move the database and all the user connections to the new server.
Thanks again.
