How many db can we have per server and how much memory in total can I have?

    Thank you

You can start creating databases one by one until it says max limit reached.

Suggestion, ask your hiring manager to teach you how to use Google and searching in it.

I guess the Hiring Manager is intelligent enough not to waste his time teaching how to google when some people aren't gonna use it anyways..:-P

He would better be employing someone who knows what is Google and how to use it. (next time)

Personally, I hate it when someone tells me to Google something. Everyone knows that option is there, so it's like they don't want to answer the question.

I hate to google for an obvious reason. We have snippets in our company keep tracks of whats being searched. It's not just me here, all of my colleagues try to avoid google as much as they can.

My best bet would be to lookup BOL or end up at any of these forums to find a solution..but again the point is how silly :hehe: my question is, to determine if it needs to end up on a forum..

    Thanks..

Problem here, howver, is this particular individual could answer his own questions in the privacy of his own cubicle in just a few minutes by searching Books Online or using Google instead of post these types of questions on a forum.

    😉

The_SQL_DBA: Does you company keep track of what you search on google (And other search engines)? What do they use that data for? do they hold researching subjects and topics agianst you? Who has the time to check all that data? Do they let use forums like this, if they have such a poor attitude to searching?

Unfortunately, that's the bad part of working in a compliance industry. They do keep track of who's searching what and the google searches for topics on which you are supposed to be an expert end up showing as a bad remark in management reviews..

You have my sympathy. What a ridiculous attitude to take to research! how do they think you get to be an expert?

p.s. - thought it was time to reduce the inclusion of quoted replies 🙂

I have to agree. Being an expert doesn't mean knowing everything, but knowing how and where to find the answer when you don't know.

You may or may not personally like when someone says to google, but you would also need to know when someone suggests to google it, that means that it is so easy to find that answer using Google rather than asking in a forum.

And your opinion that people don't want to answer the question is your personal opinion and not true, if that is the case look at my replies (I think you or not you can look for the last 150 replies by a user) I would have been replying to all threads use Google or search Google without trying to help or providing to solve the problem. Where as the particluar user in this case has been asking some of the most fundamental questions which would be easily available on searching Google.

I am not sure how long have you been here in this forum and followed the particular user, I would recommend you try following such fundamental questions and answer them patiently without feeling irritated.

I replied/ helped multiple times to the same user and have also replied almost same suggestion repeatedly..

I hope you get the point...

I hope that you were kidding ... otherwise I was going to reply similar to Bru.

I have asked for help many times on this forum (and given help when I can), but I would be embarrassed to ask such simple questions. It signifies laziness and expecting others to do the work. And in these cases, the answer can be found in just a matter of seconds, so why post and wait for an answer ?

There have been several other people recently asking such questions, not just this case.

I just wonder if the persons posting such questions know how silly there question is..not to mention tags like 'Urgent reply needed..how to backup a database' may end up making the genuine urgent posts to be overlooked..:ermm:

  • I wonder if anyone ever uses the SQL Books Online?

Or as many have suggested, any one of the search engines.

It would have taken longer to login here and type in the question, as opposed to using the BOL, and typing in the word "Specifications"
