How is this possible...SQL mail works without a profile set up on the server...but one defined in SQL EM?

  • OK I came into a situation that is both unique to me and puzzling.

Prior to me starting my job SERVER A had SQL Server 2000 on it and I believe Outlook 2000 (not sure if it had a mail profile established or not).

Anyways, it was upgraded to 2003 Outlook and was never configured.

However the email continued to work correctly, i just stumbled across this right now.

EM has a mail profile set up in SQL agent and SQL mail.  But like I said there is no profile established on the server that I can see.

Can anyone care to explain to me how the mail can continue to work if it doesn't have a profile???  I asked our Exchange guy and he gave me some techy Outlook talk about just using the MAPI...which I said "OK...thanks"

I have no idea what he is referring too so if anyone can help a brother out I would greatly appreciate some light shed on the subject.

    Thanks in advance.

  • OK nevermind I am the ultra noob...

I didn't realize I was logged into the server with a different account vs. the account that actual starts SQL server.

Once I did that I saw the light and got my answers
