HOW do I display the tabs in Mgmt Studio for my Query Windows?

  • Does anyone know HOW TO 'display' the tabs in Management Studio which reference the individual query panes?

(When I'm in Management Studio with multiple Query's open, I DO NOT have any TABS or TAB GROUPS displayed to allow for Quick navigation.  Unfortunately, I am limited to selecting 'Window' then selecting the Query Pane I need.  Very much a PITA..)

    thx in advance

  • yes... it's a real pain, and we are all putting up with it. you could just

use the (ctrl+shft+tab) to scroll between tabs, but that might feel like the

    same thing.

best you can do is change the view to horizontal or vertical panes,

    and just full-screen it (shft+alt+enter)

then of course you are limiting space.

  • You are most likely running in MDI mode. To switch back to the tab mode select Tools -> Options from the menu bar. On the options dialog select Environment -> General. The middle set of options is called "Environment Layout". Here there are two choices: 1) Tabbed documents and 2) MDI environment; select the "Tabbed documents" option and click OK.

As mentioned, for easy switching between tabs you can use Ctrl-Tab to move forward between the tabs and Ctrl-Shift-Tab to move backwards through the tabs. Management Studio follows the Visual Studio convention for switching tabs - this means the two most recent visited tabs are reordered to be next one another so you can use Ctrl-Tab to switch back and forth between two windows regardless of the order they were open.
