How do I backup or replicate multiple databases from my webhost to my local server at home when each database has its own login account?

  • Hi There,

Sorry for being a newbie but I've searched everywhere and have come to my last stop of hope.

How do I backup or replicate multiple databases from my webhost (remotely) to my local server at home when each database has its own login account?  The webhost will not allow me to use one login to manage multiple databases and I do not have access to an SA account.

I have tried through Enterprise Manager, but I have to connect and disconnect for each database manually as the Enterprise Manager will not allow me to use multiple login in account under the same IP (the webhost).

I want to automate this process.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    MattLok.

  • Assuming that your accounts have db_owner rights in your database, you could give one account access to all your databases. When use that account to backup your databases.

    Hope this helps

  • Hi Markus,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have tried to set one account for all my databases but in a shared web hosting environment they do not allow that and have locked the SA (super admin) from anyone using it which in my case I needed in order to set all my database accounts to one user.  I can however create many useres as long as they are not same on other databases including those that are not mine in this shared environment.

But, I can set the users on my local server to be the same user for all databases, but again I have SA account to have that privelige since I own my local server.

    Thanks anyways for the suggestion.

    Matt.
