In the sql server 2000 reporting services , I'm using the chart bar and try to set shading of its color. I can not find the function shading like the chart of excel. How can I set shading?

Make sure you have the service packs installed. The service packs added the functionality to change the bar shading. Then go to Chart, Properties, and select the data tab. In the value area select the data value that you want to change. Click on the Edit button to the right. Click on the appearance tab, then select series style. This provides border and shading options and fill options. You don't get as many options as you do with Excel but you should be able to do what you want with these.

I often use conditional formatting for involved coloring / shading criteria. I've been able to do some pretty amazing things with charts, including histograms (healthcare clients), KPIs (yes, even in RS2k), etc. RS is quite flexible in the avenues it makes available.
If you need an example, let me know ... also, check out my monthly series' (listed below) for other RS tips and tricks, centering around charts and other topics.
