I have a parent group and added two additional columns so they would all show as a group. My problem is that the MRN and Name repeat for each detail line. How can I prevent this?

Here's an image. I would like the AccountNumber, MRN, and Name to show only once.

Merge the cells, like you have for account Number.

I didn't merge the AccountNumber. It's a group.

AccountNumber isn't a group, the combination of AccountNumber, MRN and name is a group *unless you have another Higher group that your images show). The Cell for Account Number is a merged cell, so you need to do the same to the MRN and Name cells, like I said before.

That's the way I want it and expected it to work that way, when I added the fields to the parent group.

It'll only work that way if you put the columns in the group as well. Notice, in my image, that Code and name are in a different group to Ptype, which (again) are in a different group to Year. I suspect you are presenting the value of MRN and name outside of the group, and hence why it's repeating. I can't tell that from the non-design view of your report though.

And are the MRN and Name columns in the group in the display? I can't tell from that image (Again, I suspect not). Notice in my screen that you can clearly see the group labelling on the table.

Did you set your report up like the Group Properties screen shot that I posted earlier? That's the only way I know of to group on multiple columns.

The only other way to set them up is when initially creating the report in the wizard and setting them then. Otherwise, yes, you set the Groups in the Row Group pane below the report Designer Pane, and above the Output/Variable Pane. Like i said, I suspect that within your tablix, the column MRN was created outside of the group, not inside it. The tablix I shows above has Row Grouping, not column, but the same principle applies. The below screenshot is from SSDT, not BIDS, but the menu's were indentical from my recollection. Notice that there are 2 options, Inside Group (above and below) and Outside Group. The column/row needs to be created inside the group for it to only display with that group.
