Experts,
Suppose a user gives a backup taken from one of the SQL server 2008 encrypted with TDE.
But user doesn't have the backup of certificate and and also not aware about Master key details. As per my understanding, in order for me to restore this backup in another server I need to have this certificate and Master key details. I know the server which database is backed up. My question is.
How can I find which certificate is used ? What all the things I have to do in the other server to restore this backup ?
Thanks in advance.
San.

Since you posted this to the SQL Server 2005 section, I am guessing that you are trying to restore a 2008 backup on to a 2005 server, which is impossible.
But assuming that you are restoring to a 2008 server, I wonder if trying to restore the backup without giving it any input for the certificate will give you a hint as to what certificate is required.
Sorry, that's about how much I can help on this.

Yes, I want to restore to a SQL 2008 database only.
