Not sure what your problem is, SQL Server will use as much memory as you allow. Besides using SQL Server 2008, are you running x86 or x64 version?
If you are running the x64 version and your server only has 8 GB ram, you need to set the mx memory used by SQL Server to about 6 GB. This will leave 2 GB ram for your OS and other applications. Depending on what else may be running on the server you may want to make that number lower.
