So I didn't set this up, nor do I have a test rig, hence my ask:
The set up:
W & M = same box. P = another box.
All are synchronized & on P.
What I need to do:
Take down W & M box. Ensure no outage of databases on P. I guess the safest thing to do to ensure dbs are accessible to to set witness off for the duration of the reboot. But, is this neccesary?
The scenarios:
If I take W & M down, I think all databases on P become inaccessible (no quorum, P unsure what's occuring & wants to avoid split brain). Is this true?
What happens if I 'pause' mirroring, then take W & M down?
Thank you for reading. Most grateful for responses.
w = witness
m = mirror
p = principal.

Yes, as W & M is not available all the databases on P will not be accessible. This is lost quorum situation as all 3 instances become disconnected from each other.

Thanks for the reply, what happens if I "pause mirroring" then take the box with the witness / mirror down?
No problem, if no one knows / can be bothered to reply. I'm interested & without test rig atm, but I will set one up & test. Just thought somebody might know off hand.

When I look up the idea of pausing the mirroring session I am not coming across anything that specifically addresses your question. Is it out of the question to tear down the mirroring session and recreate it, preferably with a third machine as the Witness role?
