I've created a SQL Alert to email an operator when the High Availability Group fails over. I've set it to use Error 1480.
The alert fires successfully, but it fires 3 times so I get 3 emails for the same fail-over event.
Why does it fire 3 times, and how can I suppress this behaviour?

That usually happens with that alert. Try putting a 5 or 10 minute delay between responses on the Options tab for the alert.

So does this cause the alert to fire once, or does it not just space the 3 alerts out over a 15 or 30 min interval?

The alert still fires as it would but it doesn't send the email for however long you specify for the delay.
If you set a delay of five minutes and the alert fires 3 times in a minute, you get one email. If the alert fires 6 minutes later, you get an email.

I put in a 1 minute delay and that took care of it.
