well spotted pal, the two are linkedcompletely different problem tho
But same issue of lack of details. I guess Luis has his mind reading cap on today.
you ok matey? got out of the wrong side of the bed?
the other question was answered by multiple people conclusively, perhaps the world is full of mind readers do you think?
Perhaps my response was more aggressive than it needed to be. However in both of your threads the people that helped you had to post something usable first. The point I was trying to make is that if you do a little of the leg work the people around here (all volunteers) can spend their time working on your issue instead of setting it up. You will have a much wider audience if you put in the effort so they don't have to. Hopefully in the future you will post ddl and sample data so other don't have to create it for you.
Glad you were able to fix your issues.
this was a point already made and resolved in this very thread
it didnt need any additional involvement from the sql server central police 🙂
shouldnt you be out on the street checking if anyone else id posting properly?
I apologized for being aggressive. A little smiley face does not the mask the tone of your snarky response.
im not trying to mask anything, im quite pleased with my sarcastic response as it makes you look a bit daft

I find your response a bit unnecessary, nor have I seen you provide anything of use in helping us solve your problems. You have relied on the volunteers to setup the necessary test environment instead of providing it for us in a readily consummable format so that all we would need to do is cut, paste, and run in a sandbox database and work on a solution.
Oh, no snarky response is necessary as I already have an idea of what you may say.

i posted
someone said i posted badly
I reposted as requested and said something a long the lines of "sorry for the bad post"
then i get
"But same issue of lack of details. I guess Luis has his mind reading cap on today"
so, my snarky post was in response to a snarkier post and then in apologysing for that snarkier reposnse the snarkier respondee gave another arguably even snarkier reponse
and yes i have relied on the help of volunteers of which i am very greatful
the snarkier responder did nothing to help my thread tho 🙂
and i have no idea what snarky means

At this moment, I wish I didn't post any response.
Your answers have been rude to someone that is trying to help you by giving a good advise.
This might cause others to be unwilling to help you unless you change your manners.

in fact his original post on this thread could only ever be a hinderance to it getting resolved rather than a help

Nope, looked back through the thread and I don't see you posting any code what so ever.
Found it. Really should use the IFCode shortcuts when posting code. Helps make it more visible.
All the code posted was by Luis.
By the way, I have no idea what you are trying to accomplish as nothing you posted helped with my understanding of the problem. The fact that Luis was able to develop a solution is a testament to his problem solving skills, and a willingness to dive in when others (myself included) have decided there isn't enough there to warrant trying. We do have our own jobs to do and there are others asking for help that are willing to help us help them.

Actually I was trying to help.
After Luis put together something usable to try to work on it you wrote this:
thanks a lot mate
it works a treat for the example table
issue i have now is that for an 800 row table it takes ages
I pointed out that if you had posted the details you would get help. That is a pretty good indication that your actual table and your little temp table are vastly different from each other. Without some details nobody can help.

I had no opinion of you and didn't let my feelings keep me from being objective. I couldn't understand the problem you were trying to solve, nothing you posted subsequently helped me understand it any better,. Luis was working it, I passed it by. It was the later comments you posted that had me post my responses. I found them to be snarky and uncalled for as I read them.

Your mate was being a divy, he posted an uneccessary and agressive post
I tried to make light of it (look at the top of page 2)
If someone had posted the same post towards you you would have responded in a similar way to i did (although perhaps not as witty)
