Dear All,
Iam facing one problem with the network traffic issues.
Issue : Actually we have num of servers at our local area Say Chennai. I would like to move backup files from this chennai server to the production server inorder to restore the backup on US machine.
Its taking nearly 1.5hrs to copy 1.6GB files to the US server drives. Can i do this copy backup files much faster from Chennai (INDIA) to US server. We are not using any tools.
Please suggest if thats possible by the existing.
Thanks,
CH&HU.

Compression would be an option for you.
I am not sure how well backups compress with standard compression tools; but tools like RedGate Backup work nicely to compress it before shipping it off.

Actually, it compresses it as it's saving it for both a time savings and disk storage savings right up front. And, restores are "snap" simple. I can see why it has won so many awards.

The compression (I use WinRAR) is quiet well for backup files. Just tried AdventureWorks. The backup file has 177mb the compressed archive has 25mb.

I think that's an acceptable time over a network, the only option here we have is compressing the files and transferring them over. WinRAR performs will if you are not willing to buy any third party tools. But be sure to hold a copy of your backup files on your local server too as a best practice. I suppose you are doing it.
