Help please: SSRS reports using SSAS - report subscriptions

  • Hi – I am a relative newbie to SSRS and SSAS 2005 and would like some help with this problem please.

I have created a load of sub reports in SSRS and extract the data for them from a Cube.

The SSRS reports take the form of a load of graphs.

I want to generate a monthly report using Word.

In Word if I use insert object and then link to the image the report generates everything is fine – but I wouldn’t be writing this if everything was fine…

I want to create the same report each month so I need the links to refresh. By linking in to the SSRS image I get a URL with ReportSession and ControlId and these values expire. So I thought I would subscribe to these reports and then link to the output report. The problem here is that I can’t subscribe to the report because: “The current action cannot be completed because the user data source credentials that are required to execute this report are not stored in the report server database.”

If I go into Reporting Services and edit the data source I only have the option to use Windows Authentication.

I can change any accounts and set up any permissions that are needed.

I’d appreciate any help be it related to the cube permissions that need to be changed, how to get around an expiring link or subscribing.

    Thanks

    Seth

  • Explanation

This error occurs when you create a schedule for a subscription, for report history generation, or for refreshing a report execution snapshot. You can schedule or automate report processing only for reports that have credentials and parameter values available to them at processing time. Reports that prompt the user for credentials or that use impersonation cannot be used in a scheduled operation.

    Resolution

You will need to store the credentials for the unattended execution of this report. You might want to setup a seperate report and data source for this operation in a subscription folder on your Report Server. More information here as to how to resolve this issue -- more details.

As far as the Word format this option is available in SSRS 2008 along with other major improvements with the other formats like Excel and CSV. Do you have any plans to upgrade at all? You could setup a subscription to a fileshare and reference those files for your report or look at referencing snapshots.
