Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade 32bit SS 2005 to SS 2008 R2 on a 64 bit machine.
Should I try and install the 32 bit or 64 bit SS 2008 R2?
thanks

Quick thought, on a 32 bit version of SQL Server there are severe restrictions not applicable to the 64bit version, even more true with 2012/2014 where the AWE support has been dropped. No question, go with the 64bit if possible.

I forgot to mention in my question about whether to install 32 or 64 bit 2008 r2 that I was talking about the EXPRESS edition (with adv services).
So it turns out that my above posting is wrong.
I installed the 32 bit 2008 r2 express with adv services onto my 64 bit machine and upgraded ss 2005 express with adv services ok.
thanks,
