Here is another suggestion. Ask your dba some questions like how do I do this stuff? I need this stuff, how do I create it? This is how I learn, a good coach, a good friend and a good mentor.

I would suggest you try looking at the Resource Kits put out by Microsoft. I used these and the Exam Cram books by Corolis to study for my MCDBA, but I also learnt a hell of a lot from them as well as my 'on the job' experience.
If you have the chance to work with another DBA this is always really helpful, especially if you are the kind of person that picks things up easily by watching someone else.
