Help me to understand SQL Server VSS Writer

  Hello

  What is SQL Server VSS Writer?

  as per my under standing, If SQL Server VSS Writer services stared, then any blocking or locking on running database engine, this starts to takes snapshot.

  so if we disable that services then we have no more snapshots and does not effect to our regular backup.

  am i right? if not please correct me

  and one more thing, where it store snapshot on server?
