Help - Can''t create connections in DTS anymore

  • The first thing I should say is that all our company has been put onto a new network.  Since then (I think), I can n longer create a connection.  When I click on create new connection I get the error 'No provider exists for this connection on this computer'.  Although the connection dialog box shows I can't create (or read a current) database connection (e.g. SQL or Oracle).  This has not happened to my colleague who has been through the same system changes.

I've been through the following checks

    1.  The service starts with local account

    2.  My account (new domain) has been registered in SQL as a user

    3. I get the same problem if I connect with windows authentication or system admin

    4. Windows is fully updated , All versions are SQL 2000, SP4.

Can anyone advise me what to check next, I can't find any references to this problem on the MS site (or here).

    Thanks

  • Can you create a DSN for the server on your computer?

  • I can create an ODBC if that's what you mean.  It just that most connection types in DTS give this error.  Connection types such as text and Excel appear to be OK.  It's not just the connection itself as this message is before you define the connection.

  • After reading the error message it looks like "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" driver on your machine is missing. I think that is the reason because when you click on the connection object in DTS Designer the default driver that shows up is this. Download the latest MDAC from here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6C050FE3-C795-4B7D-B037-185D0506396C&displaylang=en

Install it and test it. Let me know what happened.

    Venu

  • Thanks,

This wont let me install as it's part of XP SP2 (there was an error message but I don't have exact details right now).  So far I haven't managed to find how to fix what I've got but it does sound like this is the problem area.
