Hi there,
We've recently upgraded a 2005 SQL cluster (active / active) to 2008 R2. There still seems to be SQL 2005 client tools including SSMS but the version in the registry setting and on the SQL instances is 10.50.4000.
I just recently checked for security updates for the server and I was troubled to see that one of them coming up is "Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 Failover Clustering".
Has anyone else experienced this or why this is happening and how to resolve this?
Thanks,
Mike

Was this an in place or side by side upgrade? In Place upgrades are somewhat tedious and I have done 100s of SQL server migrations\upgrades with all side by side due to the most safe method as per my experience, reliability, easiness etc that it offers overall.
I think you should check on server Control Panel --> ALL Programs to see if any SQL 2005 component still there? Also, you can check registry files to see if entries are there for SQL 2005. Also, you can check services.msc, config manager etc to confirm various things for this.
Thanks,
Vikas

Thank you for the replies.
There are still SQL 2005 client components on the server even though the version of the SQL instances is 2008 R2. I suspect that this is why windows thinks that the hotfix needs to be applied.
