I have just received a new Dell PE-R900 server with:
* 2x 146 GB SAS drives, RAID 1
* 3x 300 GB SAS drives, RAID 5
I just wanted to ask what the best disk setup would be for a SQL Server 2005 x64 server which needs to run around 30 10 GB databases?
I would set it up this way:
* 2x 146 GB SAS drives, RAID 1
- Setup 30 GB system partition for OS
- Setup 10 GB partition for Page file
- Setup 100 GB partition for indexes and logs
* 3x 300 GB SAS drives, RAID 5
- One 558 GB partition for databases
Note that all disk slots in the server are used and all are local to the server. Pls let me know your comments on my intended setup. Thanks.
