Hi All,
We are looking to migrate our to a new server with SQL 2008. Currently, our biggest DB is about 50 GB in size and supports with heavy a decent amount of reads/writes between automated processes and about 20ish users on it. The server is without a doubt a mission critical sever as it houses our CRM db on it as well as a few other smaller databases.
The current server has 3.93 GB of ram and is running a 4.5 GB page file. We are a small business, so budget is far from unlimited, but what would you recommend in terms of hardware?
Thanks for the help.

I would recommend at least 8 GB of RAM, but would shoot for at least 12-16 if you can afford it. The other things are dependent on how heavy is heavy. Typically I would not do a SQL Server without 2 physical and hopefully they are Quad core, and then at least 15000 RPM drives unless you are attached to a SAN. The budget will typically be heavier with the drives than the other components, so you could even do 10K RPM, but I would not recommend SATA drives.

I don't want to step on dbaduck's toes, but if you are like me and working in a "mom and pop" environment, the funds are a bit tight.
Below is the link to BOL regarding SQL Server 2008 hardware/software requirements
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(SQL.100).aspx
We house roughly six databases, two are high availability and extremely critical that they be up and running. These two critical databases are roughly 25GB and 55GB respectively. Currently they are all sitting on a 2x Dual Core 3.x processors with eight GB of RAM. We do utilize SATA drives within a RAID 5 array. This is where a lot of folks who don't have budget constraints will pipe in. The rpm is a little slower, but only a little and as long as you placing the .mdf and .ldf on seperate drives ...
If we could build a dream scenario, it would in fact look more like what dbaduck mentioned but we just don't have the funds.
