Happy 4th of July

  •

Did you check Medicare. If your father was(is) a citizen she maybe able to claim Medicare as his spouse even though she never worked.  Another option is to have her divest herself of all assets except for her second pair of bunny slippers and then tell them to whistle up a stick.

    Mike

[edit: I will have my daughter add your mother to her prayer list she has much better connections than I do. I think it has something to do with an overdue library book. ]

  • Hey that's my line .

  • Not any more Remi - if noel can steal it, so can I!

Mike...my dad was never a citizen so that avenue is closed - as for "whistling up a stick"...so used to staying on the right side of the Law that tempting though the thought is just can't bring myself to do it! <;-)

**ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI !!!**

  • I was not suggesting you break the law. Just bend it a little.

    Mike

  • You might be able to negotiate with the health care providers and get a rate equal to what the charges would be if medicare was paying the tab. There are very sharp differences between what is charged and what medicare pays.

    Mike

  • I would if I could (bend the Law ie...) -

Health & Education - the 2 most important things - & both systems so expensive and unaffordable....

Thanks for all the suggestions Mike...maybe you'll hit upon something I haven't tried yet!!

ps:Thanks for "volunteering" your daugher, splly. if she has better connections!!!<;-)

That she does but your mother would have been covered even if I had not volunteered her. She always adds a claus at the end of her prayers to explicity cover everyone she has missed.

  • Divesting herself of her assets is NOT breaking the law!  My ex-wife had cancer and that was the ONLY way to get SSN and other payments for her treatments.  It is totally legitimate and the laws were specifically written to include that option, (the ethics of having to do that to get help aside - we have such crappy laws regarding helping people - we pay huge amounts of taxes, and yet our own Citizens can't get help...).

I would seriously look into that!  You may need to get Power of Attorney for her - be VERY careful how that is written; it has enormous consequence.  But you are probably very aware of that.

LOVED YOUR REPLY!!!  Thanks for coming out of your shell; you are a stitch!!

    (p.s., just my $0.02 too    )

    I wasn't born stupid - I had to study.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your ex-wife and it's really distressing to hear about how people have to find ways to circumvent the Law and/or bend it....

considering that the fun in this post began with the Brit rant against the U.S and given this morning's tragic news it just makes one sick to the stomach...at any rate, scc.com is my escape world and I don't want it to collide with the real world...else there'll be no safe haven and no "happy place" to disappear to...

ps:If you're talking about my first reply that was wholly mine...however, "I cannot tell a lie"...if you're talking about the 2nd response...that was what sswords forwarded to me as the response to this rant that circulated on the Net when dubya was first elected!

Who posted that "Home Office" London joke up in this topic,

PLEASE TELL US YOU ARE OK! and that you do not live in London, or did not go to work. We were shoked this morning.

  • Sushila, you and GW: when that cherry tree comes down I want a piece of the pie. Do you bake? If not no problem just send the cherries and I will return a piece of pie.

    Mike

  • God bless and help our friends across the pond.

Anyone in London or even many parts of GB may not be able to reply right now.  Telecom networks are extremely congested and travel is next to impossible according to a cnn report I just saw.

Sushila, your mother will be in our prayers as well.

  • Too too kind Mike...am all choked up with your generosity - the only time I baked there were "four and twenty blackbirds"....will send you some "singing birds" in exchange for a piece of the cherry pie...so I don't feel too beholden to you!

  • So it's true then that 'denile' is not just a river in Egypt?

I'm trying to be lightheated, but my heart is still heavy for the folks in England.  When will this madness ever stop?

My hovercraft is full of eels.
