I assume the old exams will be withdrawn at some point. When is this likely to happen? We had vouchers for the exam bundled in with a recent training course and I wouldn't want to discover we can't make use of them.

To answer my own question there's a FAQ linked from the Microsoft announcement:
"You will be able to earn an MCITP or MCTS on SQL Server 2008 until July 2013"

Is it recommended to wait for the 2012 exams which would be launched this year or take the existing 2008 exams. I am quite not sure really.

Hi all
It looks like you need to take three exams for 2012, regardless of whether you're starting from scratch or upgrading:

I think the best option is to take the 2008 exams, then upgrade at a later date to 2012. This would involve taking five exams (two for 2008, and three upgrade exams). You'll have the qualification for both versions. This is my preferred route and was a key part in my taking the 2008 exams.
Additionally, studying for the 2008 exams will give you good preparation for the 2012 exams.
